A chance for NGOs, newsrooms and trainers to share current activities, plans, trends and challenges. This session will also consult on how the ACOS Safety Initiatives Mapping tool can develop so that it serves the current and future needs of our community.

FREELANCE SAFETY IN 2025

Moderator: Bruce Shapiro, Executive Director, Global Center for Journalism & Trauma (GCJT)

What are the most pressing safety issues affecting freelance journalists today and how are their needs evolving? This session will provide a safe space for freelancers to be candid about their safety experiences, challenges and fears, with the aim of gaining a clear understanding of their day-to-day realities across all areas of journalism.

About the ACOS Meeting

Every years the ACOS Alliance Annual Safety Coordination Meeting brings together news organizations, NGOs, journalists, editors and security experts for creative and candid cross-industry conversations around journalist safety.

 

This annual event has been instrumental in fostering dialogue, collaboration and innovative solutions around journalist safety issues with a focus on freelancers, local journalists and under-resourced newsrooms.
